One Seed at a Time

the varieties of wheat, corn, and rice we grow today may not thrive in a future threatened by climate change. that was the focus of a speech by cary Fowler, Director of the Global crop Diversity trust, at this year’s tEDGlobal conference, an invitation-only event where the world’s leading thinkers and doers gather to find inspiration. In his presentation, Fowler spoke passionately about the importance of protecting crop diversity. “By 2030 in Africa, the corn varieties in the field now will have a 30% decrease in production because of climate change. A 30% decrease in production in the context of an increasing population – that’s a food crisis. It’s global in nature and we will watch children starve to death on t.V.” www.ted.com
